About
re:create is a small, friendly and free LGBTQ+ performance group based in St Leonards, East Sussex. Originally set up and facilitated by Izzy Thornton and Benny Barker in early 2020, the group has taken different shapes and directions over the years.
In early 2023 the group will begin regular meetings again in preparation for a performance later in the year.
The group is open to anyone that is part of the LGBTQ+ community (including allies), whether you are looking to be centre stage acting, or supporting backstage with set design and technical details.

They are keen for our play to represent the real diversity of LGBTQ+ community and would particularly welcome interest from members of our community that don't often see themselves and their lives represented on stage.

re:create meets every two weeks (Saturday or Sunday) at St John's Church Hall, Brittany Rd, Saint Leonards-on-sea TN38 0RD
How to be part of re:create
re:create are looking for more people to join them to shape and perform a brand new play to be performed at The Stables Theatre in November 2022.
About the performance
The play will be set in ‘Dreamland’, a fictional bar outside time and space, where LGBTQI+ figures from throughout history meet and mingle.
‘Dreamland’ is frequented by LGBTQI+ people past and present, some who are well known by people, others that should be. As time and attitudes change, the one constant in the bar is the bartender, who guides the audience through the different eras.
People from the past will talk with people from the future about LGBTQI+ lives, how human rights and visibility changes, sharing personal and public triumphs and sadness, the affirming life stories, the ignorance, intense friendships and a love of life.
How to get involved
We would love to hear from you if you have an interest in or have always wanted to perform on stage, whether it's a leading role or just a small walk-on part please get in touch (no experience necessary). If you can also play an instrument then we have some great parts for you. If you prefer something behind the scenes, we are also looking for set and stage designers, marketers, technical support and costume makers.

At the moment we are meeting every three weeks in St Leonards.
